Jonathan Cook is a British writer and a freelance journalist who writes a regular column for The National of Abu Dhabi and Middle East Eye.  Since September 2001, Cook has been a freelance writer based in Nazareth, Israel, covering the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Until 2007, he wrote columns for The Guardian, where he was a staff journalist — at the same time as at The Observer — between 1996 and 2001. He is the author of three books: Blood and Religion (2006), Israel and the Clash of Civilizations: Iraq, Iran and the plan to remake the Middle East (2008), and Disappearing Palestine: Israel's Experiments in Human Despair (2008).
