About Us

Communis is an editorial and publishing project placing the production and mobilization of theoretical, cultural, organizational, and other political intervention practices at the crossroads of the intercepting and bifurcating crises defining our condition and irretrievably undermining our epoch, from the senseless and destructive logic of ever-extracting and abstracting Capital, the conforming self-cooptation of labor, and the exhaustion of the representation-form through the inability of both the party- and the non-party form(s) of direct transformative intervention to generate effective and sustainable, irreversible, and radical emancipatory change.

With its intervention practices, whether in print or digital form, whether in book or event form, whether in theoretical, cultural, or organizational form, whether in introspective exploration or outbound discussion, Communis aims at inserting itself into its own contemporaneity and horizons as a concurrent site able to host some distinctive trace of and towards the collective re-channeling of interrupted courses. The question about what is possible today is always the question about the awareness of the self-imposed limits of what we can imagine as such. Only what can be thought, provided that it is thought consequentially, can insinuate an answer.

Against all forms of one-track thinking, of delegation of truth, of self-annulling relativism, through the unstable landscape of the common, but not for its own sake —the only thing lastingly common is the fatal insufficiency of all present —; embedded and yet restlessly eager to affect the actual movement of things, without the false guarantee of any fixed (and imaginary) social bond. Communis. Communis(m). Communis(t).

A site for the next subject.

Our Mission

Communis strives to become a distinct venue for the wider dissemination, both in English and in Spanish, both in its original form and in translation, of radical philosophical, political, ethical, and aesthetic thought, conceived towards- and inscribed within the figure of communism as the still only universal name, idea, history, horizon for emancipatory politics.
